Tax Education: Building Foundations for the Future

The Malta Tax and Customs Administration (MTCA) continues to invest time and effort in strengthening tax education through discussions, collaboration and the development of new learning opportunities. While much of this work remains in the planning and development stages, a number of initiatives are currently being explored with educational partners. 

One of the key areas of focus is a proposed tax education programme for middle school students. The initiative is being designed as a structured learning journey delivered over three years, covering topics such as the role of taxation in society, personal taxation, VAT and customs. The intention is for the programme to offer a recognised and accredited learning experience that is both practical and age appropriate. Discussions with educational stakeholders are ongoing as MTCA seeks to ensure that the programme aligns with educational requirements and delivers real value to students. 

At the same time, MTCA is continuing discussions with the University of Malta regarding potential opportunities to further develop tax education initiatives. These conversations form part of a broader effort to strengthen collaboration between MTCA and educational institutions while exploring ways to make tax-related knowledge more accessible and relevant to learners.
